Ɏ SHOKASAI MINKOKU: AN IVORY AND SHIBUICHI KAGAMIBUTA NETSUKE WITH RAKAN AND ATTENDANT By Shokasai Minkoku (1854-1917), signed Shokasai Minkoku with kakihan 松花斎 民國 Japan, late 19th century The shibuichi disc finely worked in hirazogan with gilt, shakudo, and copper, depicting a grim-faced rakan (arhat) holding a scepter and accompanied by his young attendant. Signed to the back of the plate SHOKASAI MINKOKU and with the artist’s characteristic kakihan (cursive monogram). DIAMETER 4.9 cm Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, light surface scratches, and few expected natural age cracks to the bowl. Provenance: The Gabor Wilhelm Collection, Paris. Museum comparison: Compare a related kagamibuta netsuke by Minkoku, in the collection of the British Museum, museum number 1981,0202.11. Trade Certificate: The trade certificate for the sale of this lot within the EU has been granted (permit number FR2307513764-K).
