TIBET, late 18th century, Gilded bronze subject representing the four-armed boddhisattva Shadakshari Avalokitesvara, depicted seated in padmasana on a lotiform base, hands clasped in anjali mudra in front of the chest, the rear hands normally holding the attributes of a pearl mala (missing) and a lotus flower (damaged). The boddhisattva is adorned with jewels and a deer head, symbolizing compassion, the face expressing serenity, surmounted by a five-flower diadem; behind which the hair is raised in a bun.
