Description

Fine 18th-century French cello made circa 1735/1755, bearing a "Claude Pieray A Paris 1709" label. Accompanied by a dendrochronological analysis performed by Ratcliff, London. L. 745 mm condition: Very good condition, knot on the original back, but no accident, one piece of core on the table restored, reinforcing half-stomach at the core with core break restoration, fracture restored on the splint, heel and bottom edges changed, presence of worm galleries on the back. Note: Very attractive cello influenced by Claude Pierray, whose arches and FF are quite similar. The richness, color and quality of the beautiful yellow varnish almost seem to come from an Italian luthier. The head is also beautifully crafted.
