Evening sun in Granada Oil on canvas Signed lower left 49 x 58,5 cm framed This light-flooded work depicts two scenes simultaneously. On the one hand, an autumn afternoon in Granada: the bridge provides a beautiful frame for the trees in the background, which reflect autumnal tones in the river in the afternoon sun. Through the bridge you can see reflections in the water and a brightly lit promenade on the opposite bank. On the other hand, a dark-haired lady with a red rose in her hair can be seen walking down the promenade in the foreground on the left; a man dressed in black with barely recognizable but not friendly facial features looks after her. The same figure seems to repeat itself several times on the bridge. The black hats give the scene a mystical setting and counteract the autumn idyll. Boyer demonstrably traveled to Spain and even wrote the novel "Fuegos Fatuos. Fragment from the life of a fantasizing idler" (1910), which is set in the life of a man living in Granada. Beautiful work that shows the influences of Impressionism.
