Zande people, Central African Republic, mid-20th century. Beautiful "Linga Yanguéré" monoxyle and zoomorphic slit drum. A tree trunk has been hollowed out to make the resonance box. The body of the drum is extended on one side by a beautiful stylized buffalo head, and on the other side by the animal's tail. This drum has illustrated several ethnomusicological works, and the most accomplished example was donated by Savorgnan de Brazza to the Musée du Trocadéro in 1896. It is now on display at the Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac in Paris. This emblematic drum reflects the skills of Zandé sculptors. Dense wood. With two sticks. 70 cm x 35 cm x 15 cm Beautiful glossy patina with red hues obtained with Takula or Padouk pigment.
