Martin responded by creating a D-28 with deluxe embellishments, giving birth to the D-45. Derived from the first Martin-branded guitars in "Dreadnought" format with X-bracing, this model was offered as early as 1937, and listed in the catalog as early as 1938. The model shown here is extremely rare, produced in just 50 examples, of which the guitar shown here is number 11. The 50 examples represent the 50 years between the year of production and the "officialization" of the D-45 14 fret model in 1937.
