Description
Spanish School SS XVII-XVIII "Saint Elizabeth of Hungary". Carved wood sculpture, polychrome, gilded and stewed with vitreous paste eyes. As usual in the iconography is dressed as a lady with luxurious clothes and a basket of flowers or as in this case a bouquet. She alludes to the miracle of the roses that happened when she was feeding the poor and in order not to have to lie to her brother-in-law, the noble Conrad of Thuringia, who did not approve of her work, God turned the contents of the basket into roses.
