Ammonite (Perisphinctes Kranaosphinctes ?) Shell, ca. 157-163 million years old, Madagascar Fossil 40x36x18 cm Provenance: market (Italy) Conservation status. Surface area: 60% (large gaps) Conservation status. Support: 70% (gaps, consolidation) Perisphinctes is an extinct genus of ammonite. These ammonites lived during the Middle and Upper Jurassic and serve as an index fossil for that time period. The specimen can be traced back to the subgenus Kranaosphinctes, which was widespread in the Upper Jurassic (161.2-155.7 million years ago) only, and which some authors consider an extinct genus belonging to the family Perisphinctidae. It belongs to the oxfordian or kimmeridgian stage and comes from Madagascar.
