Description

Ring; Egypt, New Kingdom, 1570-1070 BC. Faience. It has restorations in fracture lines, located at the joints with the ring and in the central area of the ring. Measurements: 2 cm (diameter). Egyptian ring made of deep blue faience. In the centre there is a cartouche with a carving of a lotus flower. These pieces were made from two separate clay moulds, as evidenced by the hundreds recovered from excavations at the Amarna site. The earthenware paste was pressed into each mould, the bezel and stem, and the resulting pieces were joined together. The glaze, turquoise blue in this case, was then applied and the whole ring was fired.
