Ushebti for Baka. Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom, 19th Dynasty, Reign of Ramesses II, 1279-1213 BC. Faience. In good condition. Provenance: Dr. L. Benguerel Godó Collection, Barcelona, acquired in London in 1960 / J. Bagot Archaeological Gallery, Barcelona, 2015. With export certificate dated 2023. Measurements: 15.5 cm. This ushabti figure is represented as a labourer, as he is holding two bundles to work in the fields of Osiris in the Beyond. He wears a short wig from which a braid protrudes on the right side and a curly Osirian beard, ending in a tight forward curve. From his mummiform shroud, which covers his entire body, only his hands, crossed over his chest, protrude, holding the aforementioned agricultural tools. Above the body is a vertical inscription in hieroglyphic writing. This horizontal inscription translates: ‘May Osiris be enlightened, Baka, beautiful of voice’.
