Description

European school, 18th century. "Hercules". Marble. Measurements: 35 cm. height. In the representations of Hercules as a child, the hero is often represented defeating the serpent with his plump body. In the sculpture shown here, however, the legendary hero is not doing any of his "works", but his small body remains at rest, sitting on his bare buttocks. His kinky hair frames a face with fluffy cheeks. The half-open mouth gives him a vivid expression. In his right hand he holds his mace, attached to a shield with heraldic insignia. The sculpture is in the neoclassical style.
