Description

ALBERT RÀFOLS I CULLERÉS (Barcelona, 1892 - 1986). "Son de guitarra". Oil on canvas. Signed in the right margin. Measurements: 102 x 73 cm ; 114 x 87 cm (frame). Albert Ràfols Culler was formed in the School of La Llotja with Lluís Labarta and Albert Mas i Fondevila as teachers. Later he extended his studies in Madrid thanks to a pension. He became known in his native Barcelona at the beginning of the century, holding his first exhibitions in the Galerías Laietanas (1917) and in La Pinacoteca. From his language, both his photographic framing, of great expressive power, and his personal sketchy workmanship have been highlighted. These characteristics acquire special relevance mainly in his interiors, although the importance of his portraits and landscapes should also be noted. He supported his son, Albert Ràfols Casamada, so that he could devote himself fully to the plastic arts, allowing him to abandon his architectural studies. In fact, Ràfols Casamada was initiated in the world of drawing and painting with his father.
