Description

Commode. China, Qing Dynasty, 19th century. Rosewood. Measurements: 96 x 89 x 53 cm. A rare piece of furniture in its design, singular in concept but at the same time presenting genuine aspects of Chinese cabinetmaking. It consists of three drawers with attractive rhomboidal handles inset in circles. The upper body has an openwork gallery, carved with scrolls and scroll-tips. On both sides of the piece the vegetal decoration continues, developing in wide cascades around the central geometric element, which is topped with decorative spinning tops.
