ANTONIO GIOVANNI LANZIROTTI (Naples, 1839 - Palermo, 1921). "Le lilas", ca. 1880. Sculpture in carved marble. Signed: A. G. LANZIROTTI. Measurements: 58 x 33 x 32,5 cm. Bust sculpture that follows the models of the eighteenth-century portrait. It is necessary to emphasize the work of the floral trepanning, as well as of the ribbon that gathers the hair of the model. Antonio Giovanni Lanzirotti is the artist of this charming creation. In his artistic journey, Lanzirotti moved from sunny Palermo to the rich cultural city of Paris, where he perfected his art under the tutelage of Pollet. His talent caught the attention of Vittorio Emanuele II, who commissioned life-size sculptures for the Palazzo Reale in Turin . Lanzirotti was not only dedicated to art, but was also a patriot involved in the struggle for Italian freedom, which led to his imprisonment around 1870. After his release, he returned to Paris, where he presented one of his most notable works, "Stella" (1880). His deep knowledge and love of art led him to the position of curator of galleries and museums in the Kingdom of Italy, including the "Palazzo Ducale" in Urbino, the "Certosa di Pavia" and the "Galleria degli Uffizi" in Florence. Lanzirotti's work is famous all over the world, with works such as "La Pensierosa", exhibited in the Louvre Museum, and "La Griega".
