GEORGES TRIBOUT (1884-1962) Table lamp, ca. 1930. Patinated plaster and gilded bronze. Signed. Measurements: 20 x 11.5 x 44 cm. Georges Tribout was born in Paris and studied at the University of Notre Dame de Boulogne, attending the Académie Julian between 1904 and 1905. He favored the cubist style and went on to exhibit at the Salon des Indépendants in 1909, which earned him a place as a ceramist at the 1925 Exposition des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. During these years, Tribout also designed posters, costumes, theatrical sets, sculptures and ceramics for the Sèvres manufacture. The piece in question can be framed within the artist's period of maturity, where experimentation with different materials was the maxim of a generation of artists who managed to break free from the coercive rules of the academicism of the past.
