Gilded brass priming flask with four suspension rings. On the front and back: figures of kings cast in relief from plates by Peter Flötner (Thurgau, 1485 - Nurmeberg, 1546); engraved arms of Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn; date 1574 top right. Plain tip with spring-loaded cap, lever terminated by a dog's head. Southern Germany, Nuremberg, 1574 H. 10.2 cm Provenance : Former Henri-René d'Allemagne collection (1863 - 1950) and by descent. Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn (1545 - 1617) was bishop of Wursburg in 1573. The date on the object indicates that it belonged to the equipment of his guard when he took office. An identical example is kept at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (inv. M.1630-1944).
