DOGON, cliff region, Mali. Hardwood, patina of use. Large "Gina" door of a Hogon shrine with a large lock, the chest in the shape of a "âyo" crocodile. According to myth, the crocodile is a figure of Nommo, and appears on the locks as the guardian of the harvest in Binu shrines. 1st third of the 20th century. Height: 160 cm. Width: 67 cm. Provenance: Private collection of the former Parisian gallery owner FRANKA BERNDT.
