Wedding, France, circa 1760 Folded fan, the skin sheet lined with paper and painted with gouache. On a purple background decorated with stripes, three cartels depict a gallant scene inspired by the love story of Dido and Aeneas. On either side, Renommée blowing her trumpet portrays the couple. The reverse features Diana visiting the sleeping hunter Endymion. Finely beaded, engraved and gilded ivory (elephantidae spp) frame decorated with two cartels featuring trophies, and a gallant encounter in the center. (Wear, restorations.) Total height: 26 cm; closed height: 11.5 cm Weight : 63 g. In a box bearing the address, on the reverse of the lid, of "Faucon Eventails artistiques". *An ivory specimen of Elephantidae spp (I/A) pre-Convention, prior to July 1, 1947, and therefore compliant with EC regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996 art.2-Wmc, and prior to July 1, 1975, and therefore compliant with the French decrees of May 4, 2017 and January 2022.
