Description

Venus and Adonis, Europe, circa 1750 Folded fan, the leaf in skin, mounted in English and painted with gouache of an undergrowth animated, in the center, by a couple holding hands. A spear has fallen to the ground, and loves surround them holding bows. To the left, a sleeping figure awakens. The reverse is painted with two figures in the Chinese style, surrounding a shepherdess holding a crook. Mounted in ivory (elephantidae spp), pierced, carved, engraved and painted with a shepherd and a shepherdess playing the flute, musical instruments, insects and Chinese figures. (Wear, restoration, stains). Total height: 29 cm; closed height: 14.8 cm Weight : 60 g. *Ivory specimen of Elephantidae spp (I/A) pre-Convention, prior to July 1, 1947 and therefore compliant with EC regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996 art.2-Wmc, and prior to July 1, 1975 and therefore compliant with the French decrees of May 4, 2017 and January 2022.
