Description

Orville TSINNIE (1943 - 2017)* - New Mexico, Navajo, USA Open cuff bracelet in grooved and beaded sterling silver adorned in the center with a very fine lapis lazuli trapeze cabochon, signed with the artist's name and two Shiprock hallmarks. Wrist circumference: approx. 18 cm. Width: 2.8 cm. Gross weight: 141.6 g. Orville Tsinnie was often awarded the "Lifetime Achievement" prize by the Indian Arts and Crafts Association, an award given only to the best Indian artists in the USA. It was in the early 1970s that he began training with his Hopi brother-in-law, whose jewellery-making techniques are very different from those of the Navajo, but it is this that will determine his art, between tradition and stylistic innovation in his Shiprock, New Mexico workshop. The bracelet features perfectly defined lines, a cabochon of excellent proportions and quality, and a finely executed setting.
