Description

Round octagonal box superbly enameled with champlevé and decorated with diamonds in late 19th-early 20th century 18k (750 thousandths) yellow gold. On the lid, transparent red "Lal Zamin" enamel predominates, and each part is adorned with diamond leaves and rose-cut diamonds set using the "kundan" gold leaf technique, which is the mastery of setting a stone by superimposing extremely fine gold leaves on its sides, avoiding the need to use claws to hold the stone. For fragile stones, such as fine diamond leaves, this setting method is ideal. On the base, white enamel alternates between bird and plant motifs. The inside of the lid is green enamel, with a flower in the center. Finely engraved and enameled plant decoration under the four-lobed box. From a private collection of a Belgian noble family. Enamels from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Dimensions: 3.8 cm. diameter and approx. 3.84 cm. height Gross weight: 49.7 g.
