Description

18k (750 thousandths) yellow gold dangling earrings holding very pretty Tahiti cultured pearls, very fine luster, very fine surface, peacock color with bluish, green and eggplant secondary tones, 7.4 mm. Height: approx. 2.3 cm. Gross weight: 6.8 g. Did you know? Tahitian pearls are not always large. Their size depends on the size of the oyster. Oysters can only produce mother-of-pearl in a perfectly balanced environment. The oyster is left to produce pearls for around ten years. Initially, a small nucleus is placed in the gonad (the pearl sac), and time is allowed for the nacre to form and settle in layers, for around 1 to 1? years. Carefully remove the pearl and, as the oyster grows, place a new nucleus larger than the previous one. This will result in a larger pearl. And so it goes on, until the oyster produces pearls with more surface defects, which is the end of its pearling work.
