ALPS SHOJI C° Ltd - Japan (1) LITTLE RUNNING SMOKING AND SHOE SHINING PANDA BEAR SMOKING AND SHOE SHINING PANDA BEAR Until 1970, the Japanese company ALPS, whose logo represents peaks, manufactured some of the finest toys of the post-war era. One of them is this mechanical panda bear (circa 1960), which smokes a pipe and shines its shoe to the tinkle of a bell! The mechanism, powered by 2 x 1.5 v batteries (not supplied), triggers the movements in question, and even releases a little smoke when the panda raises its head. In lithographed sheet metal, wool and fabric, with 2 brushes, a bell and a pipe. The toy works. In original box, with wear and tear but no paper missing from lid. Condition: A/c
