# A zoomorphic vase depicting a fat dog standing on its paws, its mouth half-open to reveal its fangs, this Xoloitzcuintle (hairless breed of dog) is on the defensive. The numerous terracotta representations found in the West Coast region of Mexico reveal the importance of this animal, whose main role was to accompany and protect the deceased during their journey to the afterlife. Beige terracotta with glossy red slip. Traces of manganese oxide, roots and limestone. Colima culture, Mexico, 100 B.C. - 250 A.D. H: 26.3 cm. - L. 38 cm. - W. 18 cm. (Neck broken and glued back together, part of the neck missing).
