RARE GRAND CROSS DIPLOMA OF THE ORDER OF SAINT-ETIENNE (STEPHANE) OF HUNGARY (created in 1764). Awarded by Emperor Franz I of Austria (1804-1835) to Nicolas-Charles, Baron de Vincent (1757-1834). Verona, April 29, 1825. Large in-4°, bound in red morocco, framed in gilded foliate foliage, with the Hungarian crown in the corners, and the large arms of Emperor Franz I of Austria (formerly Franz II of the Holy Roman Empire, 1768-1835) stamped in gold in the center. With its red wax impression of the Great Seal of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, in its gilt bronze box chased with palmettes. Text in Latin, signed by Emperor Francis I. Good condition. Historical background: Nicolas-Charles, baron de Vincent, born in Florence in 1757 and died in Nancy on October 7, 1834, was a general and important diplomat from Lorraine in the service of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine. He was ambassador to Paris for most of the Restoration period.
