Historical background: Ambroise Lambert de Beauvais (b. 1795), admitted to Polytechnique in 1812, graduated to the artillery in 1815. Son of Ambroise de Beauvais and Anne Arnould. He died in 1862 at the time of his son's marriage. He served in Strasbourg in 1819.
