Description

[ATLAS]. [FRICX]. TABLE DES CARTES DES PAYS-BAS ET DES FRONTIÈRES DE FRANCE, avec un Recueil des plans de villes, sièges et batailles données entre les hauts alliés et la France. Brussels, Eugène Henry Fricx, 1712. In-folio contemporary fawn basane; (1) title page, 105 plates. The binding is ruined (only the skin that covered the boards remains), but the body of the work is in good condition: some browning, stains and tears. FIRST EDITION of this IMPORTANT ATLAS consisting of an illustrated allegorical TITLE sheet, drawn and engraved by Harrewyn, and 105 topographical MAPS, plans of cities, fortresses, sieges and battlefields. Most plates are double-page and/or folding, a number of which are enhanced in AQUARELLE. They cover the Netherlands, Belgium and northern France, and were probably produced to illustrate the wars fought in this part of northern Europe. The title page announces 76 MAPS: this copy is therefore considerably enlarged, notably with later maps, some dated around 1745; there are also 5 double-page watercolored MAPS on Le cours du Po. IN STATE.
