Description

LUCE Maximilien (1858 - 1941) L.A.S. "Luce" with DRAWINGS, Wednesday [ca. 1917-1918], to HIS SON Frédéric LUCE; 2 pages in-4 on a sheet torn from a notebook, in pen and brown ink (22 x 17 cm). Illustrated letter to his son. He went to see BONNARD, who is doing well: "I did several studies with him. MATISSE came today with two amateurs who bought two studies of Brittany from me for 25 francs each, which is a good price because they were things I used to sell for between 100 and 120"... He went to Lagny to pick up some canvases: "Yesterday was a beautiful day. I was delighted to see the Lagny plain again, it was magnificent"... On verso, two drawings in pen and brown ink. Landscape, field with straw bales; scene with a figure (tramp?) seated in the foreground, and in the background a woman advancing towards a counter. Luce notes at the bottom of the sheet: "Pas fameux ma plume marchait mal et pas très en train"... We enclose 2 sheets of drawings with autograph notes: - vue de ruines (14 x 16cm) annotated: "C'est encore une pâle idée de certaines photos de ruines"...; - 2 paysages superposés: arbres, et bord de rivière (18 x 11.5 cm), with this note: "Lebasque ouvre son exposition chez Petit. I'm not going because of the bad weather"... Plus a L.A.S. from Ambroisine Luce to her son Frédéric
