clock in the form of a chariot, drawn by two horses and driven by a charioteer in patinated metal. The sculptural group made by Xavier Raphanel, rests on a red marble base. The clock was inserted into the chariot, has a white enamel dial with Arabic numerals for the hours, decorated with flower garlands, gilded bronze hands. Movement with metal suspension, with hour and half-hour chime on bell on partiore wheel. H. 52 cm, W. 58 cm, D. 26 cm A MANTEL CLOCK 'COURSE ROMAINE' BY XAVIER RAPHANEL, FRANCE, END OF 19TH CENTURY This work was made by Xavier Raphanel (1876-1957) an important French sculptor. A LARGE FRENCH EMPIRE PENDULE circa 1820 38 x 47 x 16 cm Fire-gilt bronze case with relief decoration and sculptural depiction of a putto in a chariot with two horses. Enamelled dial ring with Roman numerals and blued steel hands integrated into the chariot. Parisian movement with 8-day running time, half-hour striking on bell and thread suspension of the pendulum. Rest. Additions, movement not tested. Surface with traces of age.
