SPHINXES, 19TH CENTURY Supporting clock with an architectural structure, supported by a base richly ornamented with gilt bronze appliqués. Fringing the white marble uprights are two sphinx pilasters, as well as garlands and flower vases. Clasped between the entablature and two canefore sphinxes, the machine in turn supports the base on which rests an eagle with serpent; white enamel dial with Roman numerals signed Bergmiller in Paris, gilded bronze hands by fire, large movement with anchor escapement, hour and half-hour chime on bell, with part-wheel system.
