Illustrated with 360 figures, chromolithographic plates and celestial maps. Nicolas Camille Flammarion, born February 26, 1842 in Montigny-le-Roi (Haute-Marne) and died June 3, 1925 in Juvisy-sur-Orge (Essonne), was a French astronomer. He was a very active member of many learned societies and associations for the popularization of positive sciences. His scientific discoveries have made him and continue to make him one of France's leading popularizers in the 21st century, bringing the problems of astronomy, the Earth's atmosphere and climate within reach of the general public.
