Totem Haida, British Columbia, North America Black argillite H. 59 cm (without base) (The base glued to the plinth, accident to the base restored, small cracks, dents to the upper animal's nostrils and small restoration) Miniature totem in black argillite in the form of a superimposition of interlocking animal and human figures. The concave reverse is undecorated. Totem poles of this type were produced by Haida artists from the early 19th century. Agilite is a slate-like stone quarried in the Queen Charlotte Islands.
