Suite of 8 albumen prints mounted on canvas, handwritten captions and typescript (3) on back Approx. 23 x 17 cm Hugues Krafft was born in Paris into a wealthy bourgeois family of German origin. On his father's death, he became heir to an immense fortune that allowed him to pursue his passions for art and travel. He was a globe-trotter, and throughout his life indulged his passion for travel and photography (he was a member of the Société française de photographie from 1884 to 1890, and traveled with his gelatino-silver bromide glass-plate camera). From 1881 onwards, he visited Greece, Italy, Bavaria, the Maghreb (Algeria, Tunisia), Egypt, Palestine, Spain, Scotland, Austria, Bosnia, Montenegro and Sweden. He has visited all these destinations several times. He was one of the travelers who explored Russian-ruled Central Asia.
