Description

Gustave Blanchot aka Gus Bofa (1883-1968) - There are forty "immortals", but only one is indestructible, and that's me, the automatic Ducasble. Circa 1905. Verneau printer. 100x280cm. Original poster in two sheets, lithograph, not canvas-backed. Condition A- marginal tears and small losses, wetness in lower margin. Although this is an automobilia poster for tires, the artist is amused by the comparison between the qualities of tires and academics. Recognizable on the poster are Albert de Mun, Ribot, Anatole France, Charles de Freycinet, Emile Olivier, Jean Richepin, René Doumic, Paul Deschanel, Frédéric Masson, Edmond Rostand, Raymond Poincarré, Maurice Barrès, Jules Claretie, René Bazin, Eugène Brieux, Maurice Donnay, Pierre Loti, Charles-Melchior de Vogüé, and probably Paul Bourget. Reference: "Célébrités à l'affiche" exhibition, Bibliothèque Forney. 1990.
