JAPON (Arita)
Very large flared-neck vase, with polychrome and gold Imari decoration of animated landscapes in medallions alternating with long rectangular reserves decorated with squirrels and flowering branches, set against a midnight-blue background enhanced with gold branches. The base, neck and shoulder are adorned with foliate and floral friezes (base with holes, restorations to neck). Two marks in red on the reverse. Height: 65 cm A similar model (from the former MACHAULT d'ARNOUVILLE collection), then La PANOUSE collection at Château de Thoiry) was sold at Sotheby's, Monaco, Feb. 11-12, 1979, lot no. 230.
