Dala'il al-Khayrat prayer book by Al-Jazuli Ink, polychrome pigments and gold on paper, embossed red leather binding Turkey, 18th - 19th century 20.3 x 15 x 2 cm The manuscript consists of a text in black and red ink, partly enhanced with gold and polychrome, spread over 11 lines per page, within red framing fillets. It opens with a bifolio featuring a polychrome illuminated sarlow. It ends with 6 pages of commentary written in black. The colophon bears a date, probably apochryphal, 1110 AH / 1698 AD. The later leather binding is embossed with vegetal motifs in mandorles framed by spandrels and a wavelet frieze. The Dala'il al-Khayrat is a text of prayers dedicated to the Prophet Muhammad, compiled by al-Jazuli in the first half of the 15th century, which became one of the most widely distributed texts in the world of Sunni Islam.
