Jacques Henri Juillerat (1777-1860), Imperial assault on the Huningue Bridge Festival on the night of November 30, 1796, Death of Colonel Noeslinger during Bonaparte's assault on the fort de l'Isle d'Huningue. This three-and-a-half-month siege of a reputedly minor fortress in Alsace cost the Austrians many men and munitions, and indirectly contributed to the success of the French army in Italy at the siege of Mantua. Ink, watercolor and gouache on laid paper, titled and signed lower left, 28.8 x 43.5 cm + frame: 56 x 66 cm Another version of the same scene, by Juillerat, can be seen in the collections of the Strasbourg library (inventory number ALS.AB.403).
