Description

Philippe - Joseph Brocard (1831-1896) Rare blown glass pedestal bowl with polychrome enameled decoration of floral motifs, eagles, arabesques and foliage on a gold background, of Mamluk inspiration. Motif of eagles and their prey in small cartouches on a blue background. Its ornamentation and iconography are part of the "courtly cycle" referring to the lifestyle of the rulers and elites of medieval Islamic societies, from Egypt to Anatolia. Signed: Brocard et fils Paris. Period: between 1884 and 1896, height: 24.5 cm, diameter at neck: 20 cm Master glass enameler and orientalist. Gold medal at the 1873 Vienna World's Fair. Émile Gallé was inspired by Brocard's glassworks in the 1880s. He is one of the precursors of Art Nouveau.
