Old restorations Bacchantes, pair of oval canvases (formerly rectangular), unframed, signed and dated lower left, with restorations 53 x 45 CM - 20,8 x 17,7 IN. We would like to thank Mr. Dominique Brême for confirming the authenticity of these paintings based on digital photos taken in March 2024. In the 1720s, pearlescent color became François de Troy's signature. Using white highlights, he made the fabric vibrate, and the liveliness of his touch illuminated the material. This particular treatment of reflections can be seen in the drapery, which oscillates between different shades of white, from creamy to ivory. This technique can be seen in his composition Le jeu du pousse-épingle dated between 1715 and 1730, acquired at the Tajan sale by the Musée du Grand Siècle (2021). In the last years of his career, François De Troy painted pictures for the aldermen of Paris with his son Jean-François.
