Before the son of a tax official who moved to Vorarlberg from Bohemia and a woman from Brixen devoted himself entirely to art, he studied theology in Brixen for a few semesters. In the summer semester of 1928 he went to Vienna and entered Berthold Löffler's painting class at the School of Applied Arts. In the winter semester of 1929 he moved to the Academy of Fine Arts, to Wilhelm Dachauer's class for general painting. The death of his sister Maria, who was very close to him, in 1931 and financial difficulties caused Bjelik to interrupt his studies and look for a living as an assistant teacher. In the winter semester of 1932 he continued his studies in Dachauer's class, but at the same time began studying to become a teacher. In the fall of 1934 he entered Ferdinand Andri's master class for mural painting. After passing his teaching qualification, Bjelik taught at a Viennese secondary school during his probationary year and later moved to Dornbirn, where he taught as an assistant teacher until 1937. At the same time he is taking part as a guest participant in the fourth exhibition of the Vorarlberg art community. In 1938 Bjelik, now an assistant teacher in Bregenz, designed the stained glass window in the chapel “Our Lady of the Queen of Peace” in Doren-Brenden. In June 1940 Bjelik was called up for military service. Six months later, a scarlet fever epidemic broke out in his barracks; as a result, Bjelik died of scarlet fever.
