Lucretia ESTIMATE € 500 - 1000 STARTING PRICE € 500 Heinrich Krause was an Austrian painter from the interwar period. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Julius Victor Berger and Christian Griepenkerl. From 1903 also with Kasimir Pochwalski and with Albin Egger-Lienz, who had a lasting influence on him. A scholarship after completing his studies enabled him to spend a year in Italy. From 1914 he took part in exhibitions of the Vienna Secession and remained a member until 1937. He then joined the Vienna Künstlerhaus. Numerous exhibitions in Austria and neighboring countries earned him honorable awards, including: the Prize of the City of Vienna in 1940 or the large gold medal of honor from the Künstlerhaus in 1963. In 1983, Heinrich Krause died in Vienna at the age of 98, almost deaf and blind. Portraits play an important role in Krause's work. The landscape paintings also show influences from French Impressionism as well as a strong influence from Paul Cezanne.
