Austrian work circa 1800 Cartel with eagle in carved polychrome and gilded wood. An eagle with outstretched wings holds in its talons an enameled dial, the hours in Arabic numerals, against a background of drapery and passementerie. Mechanism signed "Ernest B. Oberhornser (?) Hall". Wire suspension. Height 69 Width 51 cm. (dial damaged, pendulum missing) Provenance: Alpes Maritimes collection. Austria, ca. 1800. An eagle-shaped polychrome and gilded wood clock. Related work: the Krahuletzmuseum archaeological museum in Eggenburg, Austria, holds a similarly decorated table clock, presented as an allegory of the new times brought by "Kaiser Napoleon" to Mitteleuropa.
