White, First Restoration period, c. 1816-1823 Portico clock with Faun in white marble and gilt bronze. The enamelled dial, with the hours in Arabic numerals, signed Blanc Fils and located at the Palais Royal, holding a garland of oak leaves, is framed by four fluted columns with Corinthian capitals in gilded bronze supporting a gendarme-cap roof, decorated with oak acorns, on which a faun toasts, a conch in hand. White marble base encircled by a twisted rope, resting on four flattened ball feet. Sunburst pendulum. Wire suspension. Height 46 Width 24.5 Depth 14 cm. Glass globe. Total height. 46 cm. Provenance: Touraine collection. Blanc, First Restauration Period, c. 1816-1823. A white marble and ormolu clock adorned with a faun. On a white marble stand. François Auguste Blanc (b. circa 1776), was a clock merchant at the Palais Royal (Palais Egalité, then Palais du Tribunat, from 1802 to 1823). Signed Blanc Fils, his own son, François Louis Adolphe Blanc (1825-1918), was himself a watchmaker.
