Description

Partly Louis XIV period Religious clock in brown tortoiseshell veneer with rich ormolu ornamentation. It is topped by a two-handled vase surrounded by a gallery of pinnacles and trefoils, framed by four fire pots; the falls are decorated with acanthus leaves. The dial shows the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals. The uprights are decorated with two bracketed caryatids ending in scrolls at the bottom. Shell in the belt. The clock stands on four "toupies" feet. Rectangular base with stave. The plate is signed "Tallon A Paris" and numbered 1666, with peg escapement. Escapement and brocade suspension. Watchmaker: Louis Tallon was received as Master Watchmaker in Paris on December 6, 1717. Juror of the guild in 1719, he died in 1741. Cartel: Height 57 Width 33.5 Depth 13 cm. Total height 65 cm.
