Description

Mugnier and Dubuisson, Restoration period Bull's eye clock in patinated and gilded bronze, and painted sheet metal. The white enameled dial shows the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in a railroad pattern, and is signed "Mugnier Hr de Monsieur Frère du Roi" and "Dubuisson 1818". It is surrounded by a frieze of water leaves. The circular case in brown lacquered sheet metal and gilded bronze is surrounded by 12 stars. Bronze hanging rope. Watchmaker: Charles Mugnier, known as Mugnier Jeune, established in Rue Neuve des Petits-Champs between 1810 and 1830, was respectively watchmaker to the Emperor and then watchmaker to His Royal Highness Monsieur le Frère du Roi. Lepinte succeeded him in 1840 (in Tardy, 1971, page 482). Emailleur: workshop of Etienne Gobin, known as Dubuisson (1731-1815), whose activity was continued by his widow; he was one of the greatest Parisian enamellers of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and a direct competitor of Joseph Coteau.
