Richard Parkes Bonington (English, 1802-1828) Full-length woman Black pencil. Captioned at the bottom in black pencil: "redingote blouze d' brodée". Height 12.5 Width 9.5 cm. Provenance: sent by Bonington to Mme. Perrier in Dunkirk. Richard Parkes Bonington. A black pencil drawing of a standing model. We would like to thank Mr. Noon for kindly confirming the authenticity of this drawing, based on a photograph, and for the relevant information. Our drawing was detached from a montage comprising some ten drawings sent by Bonington to Madame Perrier in Dunkirk. In 1824, Madame Perrier asked Bonington to send her and her daughters examples of Parisian fashion trends. In a letter to Madame Perrier dated December 3, 1824 (lost, but known from a transcript in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France), Bonington mentions spending time in stores studying fashion. In another letter dated December 31 (lost, but also known from a transcription at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France), Bonington writes that he will send the drawings.
