Silver sugar tongs with engraved Greek frieze decoration, claw handles. Minerve hallmark, M.O.: Philippe BERTHIER. Weight: 54 g Philippe Berthier practiced from 1841 to 1851 at 23 rue aux Ours, then 63 passage Beaufort and finally 21 rue Quincampoix, Paris. This second woodcock hallmark was used from June 5, 1847, and re-inscribed on June 20, 1851. He was one of the greatest silversmiths of the Second Empire, producing a large number of items, including tastevins, soup tureens, cups and saucers, kettledrums and spoons.
