Amalric Walter

Amalric Walter (Sèvres, France, 1870-Lury-sur-Arnon, 1959) and Henri Bergé (Diarville, 1870-Nancy, 1937) for Daum. Bomboniere "Trois Capricornes du Chêne" in pâte de verre with coleoptera decoration, c.1920. Signed "A. Walter Nancy" and "Bergé Sc." Bonbonniere made for La Marquise de Sévigné, a luxury chocolaterie founded in 1898 by Clémentine and Auguste Rouzaud in Royat. The company commissioned boxes of chocolates for its end-of-year product line and they were created by numerous designers from various materials. The present box with lid was designed by Amalric Walter, known for his pâte de verre technique and his mastery of color in glass, and Henri Bergé, a naturalist artist and designer. These two artists collaborated on several works during their time together at Daum from 1905 to 1915. When Daum closed its doors during the war, Walter opened his own studio in 1918. Bergé and Walter continued to produce and work together until the studio closed in 1935. Bibliography. Reproduced in the book: "Le verre en France: d'Emile Gallé à nos jours", by Janine Bloch-Dermant. P. 265. Les éditions de l'amateur. Osny, 1983. 12 x 18 cm. Slightly chipped.
