1507. BOOK: (ITALIAN LITERATURE). DANTE ALIGHIERI: THE COMEDY. Venetia: Bartholomeo de Zanni da Portese, 1507. 4º larger. 10 h. + CCXCVIII fol. Missing fol. I (a1), which on verso bears a full-page woodcut engraving. The first leaf bears in gothic typography the following legend 'DANTHE ALIGHIE-/RI FIORENTINO/ HISTORIADO./ CUM GRATIA & PRIVILEGIO'. Although there are foliation errors the text is complete. This edition follows the text of Aldus' edition (1502) and Christoforo Landino's comments (from the 1497 edition). Slightly larger typography for the text and around the commentaries, marginal apostilles. Woodcut capitals and beautiful wood engravings in the text, many of them come from the 1491 edition of Benalius Capcasa and attributed to the master Pico Pliny. At the end of the flyleaf woodcut printer's mark. Somewhat short of margins. Some moisture sedge at the beginning and end of the work, inside margins and some fine drilling in the inner margin. Two leaves browned, remainder very clean. Enc. on half parchment of the late s. XVIII, tejuelo, painted cuts. Ex-libris of former owner. Brunet II/501. First illustrated edition of the XVI century.
