LE MESLE P. (painter, 17..-17..) Suite of engravings to illustrate Lazarille de Tormes by Le Sage. Paris, Thévenard, circa 1780. In-folio of 12 plates. Bound in mid-nineteenth-century red half-maroquin, spine decorated with fleurons, with corners (nerves rubbed). Beautiful suite of 12 subjects after the painter Le Mesle. Rare presence of a plate usually absent: Lazarille makes the blind man break his head. Engraved by Schmidt. This print is very rare. The other 11 leaves, which complete the suite for this novel, are also invented & drawn by P. le Mesle, but engraved by different artists" (Cat. de l'oeuvre gravé de Schmidt, London, 1789).
